Scientific work
I. The main emphasis of research is on youth, technic and education

1. Education as a Life Situation

After the doctoral thesis and other industrial and employment sociological contributions the essay "Ausbildung als Lebenslage" (education as a situation in life) was published. The essay shows the independent status of youth from the meaning of education. In the open-ended essay "youth and education - from the passage of status to the biography of transition" the nowadays accepted prolonging of the youth-phase is determined, in the way it was substantiated in the essay " Ausbildung als Lebenslage".The main thesis are presented in articles in the journal "Soziale Welt" and in the swiss journal of sociology.

2. Education and Profession, Freetime, Family, Educational Behaviour

The status of education is surveyed under the aspect of the technological change. This topic is discussed in various works of mine, for example "Bedeutung beruflicher Qualifikationsabschlüsse" (the meaning of professional qualifying degrees).

3. New Technologies (New Media and Computers)

Technic has had a special meaning in preceding works about the change of work environment and the role of specialized work. This technical theme is being further discussed with a special aspect on the new technologies. What does it mean to grow up with a lot of gadgets around. Under the title "Informal Education through Media and Computer" the change of computer-related education-sites and the change in variety of educational offers is analyzed from a sociological view with youth, media and educational aspects.

4. Learning under the impression of a technical environment

Following the works about the computer as an educational demand, thesis have been formulated on the changing of educational demands concerning modernisation. Within the outline of the empirical project "Professional experience and the origin of environmental consciousness" an old work idea about youth and education is taken up again and analyzed how technic designates the every day life in the form of ecological risks. The model of the mobile society and it's production (in the mobile-industry: manufacturing of cars, bikes, trains) plays a role which is also the foundation of the professional future of the youths which have been questioned by us.

The intersection and over-lapping of the different areas of socialisation (media, school, company, (youth-)politics family, peers) is interesting from a youth sociological point of view. In these areas the youths get information about ecological topics and are encouraged to handle. Noticeable to other surveys of this kind is that youths have a clear picture in mind of their training firm and it's position in the market already to beginn of their professional education.
